While most students during fall break decided to go home or go on a service project, I decided to embark on a spiritual pilgrimage to Rome for the canonization of Brother Andre Bessette — the first saint for the Congregation of Holy Cross. I was a bit nervous about flying over the Atlantic Ocean, but it was all good.
I went on this trip with two other seminarians from Old College, seven lay students discerning a call to the priesthood, and two Holy Cross priests. This pilgrimage opened my eyes to the larger church. I saw people from all over the world that came to worship with the Holy Father. The canonization Mass was beautiful and I will never forget it.
After the canonization Mass, we had the rest of the week to see the major basilicas of Rome and various other religious sites. I truly enjoyed being feet from the bones of St. Peter and also St. Francis.
God Bless,
Kyle Gruber
