Last weekend with the profession and ordination of Deacon Matt Kuczora CSC, we spent considerable time together as a seminarian and greater Holy Cross Community. Our time together continued throughout the week. On Tuesday, the Old Collegians prayed together at the first Log Chapel Mass of the year, and the returning second-year men received their cassocks. On Thursday, we were at Moreau for the usual community night, by the end of which everyone was chopping at the bit for the new season of Irish football.
We began our Saturday early (some of us as early as 6:00 AM) in order to set up for our concession stand at the Southwest corner of Hesburgh library. After our Mass at 8:00 AM, we setup our stand and served burgers, brats, and hotdogs in the summer sun up until game time. (A special shout out to Brian Williams and Tony Oleck who manned two of the grills for the entire day.)
Most of us were able to go to the game. Unfortunately, the Irish played a sloppy opener (apparently unaware that Christian charity does not include giving the football to the other team 5 times in one game). However, we strive to be men with hope to bring. Next Saturday is another game and another chance to take down Michigan. If I had to choose between starting the season 1-1 with a win over USF or a win over U of M, I take down the wolverines every time.
Our Lady of Sorrows. Pray for us.
Stephen
