St. Joseph Procession

Greetings, friends!

As the leaves begin to change colors, so were some of the faces of students as they prepared for midterm examinations! We at Old College wanted to do our part in offering to students a well-needed study break during the week. On Tuesday, the men of Old College hosted a Votive Mass of Saint Joseph to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the canonization of Brother Andre Bessette, Holy Cross’s first saint. It was providential that Saint Andre’s canonization fell during midterm week, as he was known for his deep devotion to Saint Joseph, the patron saint of workers. Father Steve Lacroix, director of Old College, presided at the Mass, which took place in the Corby Hall chapel. It was followed by a candle-lit procession to the Saint Joseph statue that stands just outside of Old College, where we sang a litany to Saint Joseph and had the opportunity to individually venerate relics of Saint Andre.

Andre’s call to “go to Joseph” was a helpful reminder to both students and seminarians, and a chance for us to ask for both Andre and Joseph’s intercessions during this week of midterms.

In Holy Cross,
Tony Oleck
