All Souls Day

To celebrate the Feast of All Souls we gathered as a Holy Cross community; priests, brothers, sisters, and seminarians, to remember those who have gone before us in the Congregation. We began the evening by gathering in Fatima House and attending Mass, with our provincial Fr. David Tyson C.S.C. presiding. Fr. Peter McCormick C.S.C. offered a moving homily about the strength we could gain from remembering those who have gone before us, and the graces we could receive in praying with them to our loving God.

Following Mass we processed to the community’s cemetery while singing the litany of the saints, particularly the patron saints of the men and women who had died since the previous All Souls Day. Once we arrived we spend a few minutes in quiet prayer surrounded by our deceased brothers. There was a great sense of peace among the graves of these holy men who gave all to Christ Jesus. For a first year seminarian this was a wake up call to remember that the men and women of Holy Cross offer their lives forever. Even death no longer has the power to separate us from our Brothers and sisters in Christ and in Holy Cross.

In Christ through Mary,

Joe
