After an enjoyable Spring Break, we at Old College spent no time in getting back to work. On Friday, we celebrated the feast day of St. Joseph, one of the three patrons of the Congregation of Holy Cross and the special patron of the Holy Cross Brothers (once known as Josephites). Because this solemnity fell on a Friday, we were even able to relax our Lenten fast and enjoy a roast beef dinner!
On Saturday morning, we all traveled to a local abortion clinic where Fr. Russeau celebrated Mass under a gazebo located in the pro-life prayer garden next door. It was a great inspiration to see more than 30 other local pro-life advocates there on a chilly March morning, bringing our total to nearly 60.
After Mass, Brendan led us in a service project at the Catholic Worker. Although I wasn't able to attend, I have heard many reports about the valiant men of Old College moving compost heaps, folding donated clothes, sorting recyclables, and helping to cook breakfast. This was a great way to act on our call to serve others through acts of charity.
As I write this update, the aroma of a home-cooked meal is drifting up to me at my desk on the third floor from the kitchen on the first floor. Brother Ed, Brian, and John W. are all working at making a casserole ("hot dish" as they call it in Minnesota), sourdough bread, coleslaw, and fruit salad. After praying Vespers in common, we will be able to share a meal together and enjoy some community time before we plunge back into the work of another week.
In Holy Cross,
Braydn Harsha
