Words of Wisdom

This has been an amazing week as far as formation speakers are concerned. On Monday, Msgr. Michael Heintz came to celebrate Mass with us and then came with us back to Old College to have some great pizza and get to know us some because as the new M.Div. director he will be very influential in our future class selections, helping us to choose the classes that will benefit us the most for our years ahead after ordination. He is an incredible speaker and quick with the jokes. After listening to him talk about the current M.Div. program and what the purpose of the program should be and what the purpose of discernment is, I feel very confident that this man will be successful in equipping the next generation of priests with the tools we will need to be quality priests able to spread the Word.

This Tuesday evening, Fr. Bill Miscamble came to talk to us about the role and need for priests in higher education. Through the way he spoke, it was easy to see that he had a passion for what he did, namely living fully his vocation as a Holy Cross priest and teaching Cold War history. He shared many examples of how he incorporates Christ and the Church into his teaching, including beginning his classes with prayer and analyzing parts of the war through the lens of the Catholic Church’s Just War Theory. With his time, he also described the uniqueness of teaching from a Holy Cross perspective.

Both Msgr. Heintz and Fr. Miscamble gave me a message of encouragement as they talked about the beauties of the priesthood.

God Bless,
Bryan Williams
